Characteristics of Hand-Woven Persian Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool to create long-pile rugs deeply rooted in their way of life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is exceptionally durable, allowing the sheep to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of lanolin, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, and adept at regulating body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made from such wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable they are said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also known for being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with no two being exactly alike, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but also hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile direction.
For persistent stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove any detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please be aware that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may occur.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
