Features of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are handwoven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are long-pile rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool, deeply rooted in their way of life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil for good body temperature regulation, resulting in soft, pleasant-feeling wool.
Gabbeh rugs, made by carefully hand-weaving this wool dyed with natural dyes by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing you from feeling hot. And, above all, there's their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created by the nomads from their imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find a special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile. If stains are a concern: dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shady area.
Notes
As these are handwoven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of handweaving. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the dyes used on the wool may be present. This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
