Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil for effective body temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, handcrafted by Iranian nomads who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously weave each strand, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also characterized by being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And, above all, there's the artistry. Gabbeh rugs, imaginatively created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
How about finding your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may occur.
The scent will gradually disappear with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
