Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs woven by the Qashqai tribe, who are nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, helps in effective body temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, handcrafted by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their soft and pleasant texture, made from wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously woven strand by strand.
A well-woven Gabbeh is said to be durable enough to last 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool feel.
And, of course, their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created by nomads are often adorned with designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor, or even hung on a wall as a piece of art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please appreciate these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As a result, there may be a distinct odor from the dyes used to color the wool.
While the odor will gradually dissipate with use, we ask for your understanding in advance.
