Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs woven by the Qashqai nomads living in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool as a part of their daily life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing it to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of oil to help with thermoregulation, resulting in soft and pleasant-feeling wool.
Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, showcasing its superior durability.
Born from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And, above all, their artistic quality is remarkable. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
How about finding your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape, pattern, weaving, and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
