Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with water to remove detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
