Characteristics of Hand-Woven Persian Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft texture rich in oils to effectively regulate body temperature.
The Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by hand by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting outstanding durability.
Born from the drastic temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, offering a cool sensation.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Vacuum or sweep to remove dirt and dust along the nap.
If it's particularly dirty: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the wool dye may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
