Characteristics of Hand-Woven Persian Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs woven by hand by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically live in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses superior durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is soft to the touch, containing a high amount of oil to effectively regulate body temperature. Gabbeh, hand-woven by Iranian nomads, meticulously knot by knot, using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture. Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, demonstrating excellent durability. Born from a climate with large temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing heat. And, above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, with no two being exactly alike, making each one an original, one-of-a-kind piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find a Gabbeh that you can use forever, your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile. If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur. The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
