Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs, rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads who herd in Iran's Zagros Mountains, hand-woven from plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for surviving in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran meticulously hand-weaving this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, so they don't feel hot.
And, above all, is their artistic quality. Gabbeh created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original, one-of-a-kind item.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also displayed on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, dyeing inconsistencies, etc. Please be aware that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dyes may be present.
This scent will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
