Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe who are nomadic in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content to efficiently regulate body temperature.
These Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each one, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, created in a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also characterized by being warm in winter and well-ventilated, not feeling hot, in summer.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, imagined and created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish and use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can also be removed before shipping
The pompoms on the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pompoms to be removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
