Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, everyday rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content to regulate body temperature effectively.

These Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven thread by thread by Iranian nomads after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.

Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.

If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar item tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.

Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.

The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
