Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-knotted rugs made by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, developed to survive the harsh conditions of the Zagros Mountains, and is rich in lanolin for good temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
The Gabbeh rugs, made by Iranian nomads who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-knot each one, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being an original and unique piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but also hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can enjoy for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
If it's particularly dirty: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry it in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-knotted, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-knotted items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
