Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai people, who are nomadic in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are hand-woven using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, as well as soft and pleasant-feeling fibers containing a high amount of oil to effectively regulate body temperature.
The Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by hand, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing heat buildup.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created imaginatively by nomads often feature animal and plant designs, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art.
Why not find a special Gabbeh rug just for you, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used on the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
