Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture is due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by Iranian nomads who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, so they don't feel hot.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please note that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used on the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
