Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, everyday rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture rich in natural oils, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by hand-weaving this wool dyed with natural dyes, one by one by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Strongly woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last 100 years, boasting excellent durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created by the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile direction.
If dirt is a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
