Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile carpets woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of natural oil for temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, woven with this wool dyed with natural dyes by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there's their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the nomads' imagination, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, as well as weaving and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool, which may produce a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can also be removed for shipping
The pom-poms on the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pom-poms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
