Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, everyday rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, essential for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is rich in lanolin for effective body temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture. These Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one by one, using natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel. Well-woven Gabbehs are said to last for 100 years, demonstrating their superior durability. Gabbehs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing heat buildup. And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can enjoy for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. If you notice stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and irregularities in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dye used on the wool may occur. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
