Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a lot of oil to provide excellent durability and temperature regulation for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains.
The Gabbeh rugs are made from this wool, dyed with natural dyes, and carefully hand-woven, strand by strand, by Iranian nomads, resulting in a fluffy and comfortable texture. Gabbeh rugs that are tightly woven are said to last 100 years, boasting excellent durability. Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme daily temperature differences, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, offering a cool feel. And, of course, there's their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique and original piece, with no two being alike. They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall. Why not find a special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time, one that is uniquely yours?
Daily Care
Vacuum or sweep along the pile to remove dirt and dust.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and let it dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Please Note
As these are hand-woven, there may be slight irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dye variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven items. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dyes may be present. This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping
The pom-poms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
