Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using plant-dyed wool with a long pile, and are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a lot of oil to regulate body temperature effectively. Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran who hand-weave each strand of this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, indicating its superior durability. Born from a climate with drastic temperature changes between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also characterized by being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer. And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. How about finding your own special Gabbeh rug, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile. For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, wipe thoroughly with clean water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, and unevenness in weaving and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven product. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dyes used on the wool. This smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed upon shipment
If requested, the pom-poms on the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery. Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
