Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomads, who hand-weave them from vegetable-dyed wool in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as its soft and pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbehs, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads one strand at a time after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbehs are incredibly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbehs, created from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, their artistry is remarkable. The Gabbehs imagined and created by nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, as well as weaving and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dyes may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping.
The pom-poms located at the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
