Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are deeply rooted in their daily lives, made from plant-dyed wool with a long pile. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content to regulate body temperature effectively. These wools are dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, resulting in a Gabbeh that is fluffy and pleasant to the touch. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And of course, there's the artistry. Gabbeh rugs, imagined and created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being an original, one-of-a-kind piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. How about finding your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dust and dirt by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile. If you notice stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and irregularities in weaving and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven product. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping.
The pom-poms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery. Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
