Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, handwoven rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai nomads who herd in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian Varied wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for surviving in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of oil to regulate body temperature, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture. Gabbehs are made by Iranian nomads who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously handweave each strand, resulting in a plush and pleasant feel. Well-woven Gabbehs are said to last for 100 years, demonstrating their superior durability. Gabbehs, born from climates with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing them from feeling hot. And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be laid on the floor, of course, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls. Why not find a special Gabbeh that is uniquely yours and can be cherished for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile. If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to its handwoven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and variations in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of a handwoven product. Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dye used for the wool. The smell will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
