Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs woven by hand by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content to regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, handcrafted by Iranian nomads, meticulously hand-weaving each thread of this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, indicating its exceptional durability. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing it from feeling hot. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be placed on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile direction. If concerned about dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and variations in weaving and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items. Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used for the wool may occur. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
