Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, handwoven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are deeply rooted in their daily lives and are made from naturally dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a high amount of natural oils that allow sheep to regulate their body temperature effectively, and offering excellent durability needed to survive the harsh conditions of the Zagros Mountains. Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their soft and fluffy feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, making them feel cool. And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece. They can be used on the floor, of course, but are also beautiful enough to be hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile. For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung cloth. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to its handwoven nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, as well as uneven weaving and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of handwoven items. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Consequently, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
