Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool with a long pile, deeply rooted in their daily life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The wool is dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads, resulting in Gabbeh rugs that are famously plush and comfortable to the touch.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation.
And, above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original creation.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find a special Gabbeh that you can cherish and use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust along the pile direction using a vacuum cleaner or broom.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and irregularities in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool, which may result in a distinctive odor from the dyes used. The scent will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
