Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-piled, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool as part of their daily life. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft and pleasant texture with a high fat content to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbehs, woven by Iranian nomads by hand, strand by strand, using wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbehs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Gabbehs, created in a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbehs created by the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, and each one is a unique original item, with no two being alike.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but also hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to it being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
