Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-knotted by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each one, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbehs are said to last for 100 years, boasting excellent durability.
Born from a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed as art on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and irregularities in weaving and dyeing. Please note that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dye used for the wool.
The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
