Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh is a type of long-pile rug deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads inhabiting the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh, hand-woven meticulously one strand at a time by Iranian nomads after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, is characterized by its fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting excellent durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing heat buildup.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often features designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving unevenness, and dyeing unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Additionally, Gabbeh is woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the wool dye may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Tassels can be removed before shipping
The tassels attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the tassels does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the tassels removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
