Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains a high fat content to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh rugs, woven by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also hung on walls as art.

Daily Care

Vacuum or sweep along the pile to remove dirt and dust.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterwards, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Please Note

Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the dyes used to color the wool may be present.
The scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.

Pom-poms can be removed before shipping.

The pom-poms on the corners and sides of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
