Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads who herd in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. These are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing it to withstand the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and for its soft and pleasant texture due to its high lanolin content, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs are made by Iranian nomads who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, resulting in a plush and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable they are said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also characterized by being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And, above all, their artistry is remarkable. The Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with water to remove detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
As these are hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping.
The pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish for the pom-poms to be removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
