Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-piled rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads living in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature effectively.

Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, one strand at a time, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.

A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.

Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.

And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.

They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art.

Daily Care

Remove dust and debris along the pile using a vacuum cleaner or broom.

For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a firmly wrung-out towel. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Please Note

Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.

Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may occur.

This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.

Pompoms can be removed before shipping

The pompoms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.

Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
