Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs woven by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool as a part of their daily life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh are made by these Iranian nomads who meticulously hand-weave each strand of this natural-dyed wool, resulting in a fluffy and comfortable texture. Well-woven Gabbeh are known for their exceptional durability, said to last for 100 years. Born from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, Gabbeh are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And, above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original creation. They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive smell from the dye used on the wool.
Please note that the smell will gradually dissipate with use.
