Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically weave them by hand using vegetable-dyed wool in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian variant wool used in this product, native to the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, possesses excellent durability for survival and a soft, pleasant texture rich in natural oils, allowing for effective temperature regulation. Gabbeh rugs, hand-knotted by Iranian nomads one by one using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, showcasing its exceptional durability. Originating from a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing overheating. And, of course, there's their artistic appeal. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dust and dirt with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
As these are hand-knotted, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-knotted item. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are made from sheep's wool, which may result in a distinctive odor from the dyes used. The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping
If requested, the pom-poms located at the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery. Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
