Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile carpets hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads inhabiting the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft texture contains a high amount of oil, which helps in regulating body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also known for being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing a feeling of heat. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be used not only on the floor but also displayed on walls as art. How about finding your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a long time?
Daily care
Remove dust and dirt by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile. If you are concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with water to remove detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please note
As these are hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, uneven weaving, or uneven dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the wool dye may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
