Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed sheep's wool as part of their daily life. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product is derived from sheep that live in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains. This wool possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content, allowing for effective thermoregulation. The Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven one by one by Iranian nomads, using this natural-dyed wool, resulting in a fluffy and comfortable texture. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Originating from a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And above all, there's their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, original piece. They can be used on the floor or even hung on walls as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Use a vacuum cleaner or broom to remove dirt and dust along the nap of the rug. For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used on the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can also be removed before shipping
The pom-poms on the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery. Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please contact us via email or phone below.
