Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool with a long pile, deeply rooted in their daily life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft and pleasant texture rich in oils for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven piece by piece by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme daily temperature differences, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created by the nomads from their imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original item.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for many years to come?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may occur.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but we kindly ask for your understanding in advance.
Pompoms can be removed upon request
If requested, we can ship Gabbeh rugs with the pompoms on the corners or in the middle removed.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
