Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, everyday carpets hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads of Iran's Zagros Mountains, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and contains a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation, resulting in soft and pleasant-feeling wool. The Gabbeh rugs, crafted by Iranian nomads who hand-weave each strand of this naturally dyed wool with care, are characterized by their plush and comfortable texture. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation. And above all, there's their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original item. They can be placed on the floor or even displayed as art on walls. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a piece you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. For persistent stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the wool dye may be present. The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
Pompoms can also be removed before shipping
The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment. Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you would like the pompoms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
