Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a lot of oil to help regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads strand by strand from this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable texture. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing the feeling of heat. And, above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug, one you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile. For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dyes used to color the wool. The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping
If you request it, we can remove the pompoms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh rug before delivery. Removing the pompoms will not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh rug.
