Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomadic tribes in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are hand-woven from plant-dyed wool and feature a long pile. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as its soft and pleasant feel due to its high oil content, which helps with temperature regulation. Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by hand by Iranian nomads using this natural-dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability. Originating from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a comfortable feel regardless of the heat. And then there's its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. How about finding your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap. For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the wool dye may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can also be removed before shipping.
The pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment. Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
