Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variat wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and is rich in lanolin, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, and adept at regulating body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads one by one with this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable texture.
A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing heat buildup.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created by nomads from their imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For persistent dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the wool dye may occur.
The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
