Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads who wander the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture rich in natural oils, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Originating from a climate with extreme daily temperature differences, Gabbeh rugs also have the unique characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, imagined and created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterwards, wipe thoroughly with water to remove detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique scent from the dyes used on the wool.
The scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
