Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool to create long-pile rugs that are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft texture, rich in natural oils, allows for effective temperature regulation. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven piece by piece by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer. And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, with each piece being a unique, original item. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to the handmade nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, as well as weaving and dyeing irregularities. Please note that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
The pom-poms located at the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipping if requested. Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
