Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a lot of oil to help with temperature regulation and excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains. Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable texture. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable they are said to last for 100 years. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated, giving a cool feeling in summer. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs created by the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique original. They can be placed on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. How about finding your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile. If you notice dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Notes
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be some distortion in shape or pattern, uneven weaving, or uneven dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used for the wool may occur. The smell will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms on the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery. Removing the pompoms does not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
