Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled rugs woven by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using plant-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product, developed for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, possesses excellent durability and a soft, pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature.
These wools are dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven one by one by Iranian nomads, resulting in Gabbeh rugs that are plush and feel delightful to the touch.
Well-woven Gabbeh are renowned for their outstanding durability, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, making them feel cool even in hot weather.
And most notably, their artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each piece a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, as well as inconsistencies in weaving or dyeing. Please consider these characteristics as part of the charm of a hand-woven product.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As a result, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
