Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs made from plant-dyed wool, hand-knotted by the Qashqai nomads who inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran, and are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The "Persia Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content that helps regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-knot each thread, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat. And above all, there is their artistry. The Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind item. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. If it gets dirty: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent and dry it in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to the handmade nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, as well as inconsistencies in weaving and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-knotted item. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment. Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us by email or phone below.
