Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Varied wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains a lot of oil to help with temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each one, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last 100 years, boasting excellent durability.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And, above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh created by the nomads from their imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being an original, one-of-a-kind item.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
