Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile carpets deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content to regulate body temperature effectively.
The Gabbeh rugs, crafted by Iranian nomads meticulously hand-weaving each strand of this natural-dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and delightful feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their exceptional durability, said to last up to 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, imaginatively created by nomads, feature many designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, as well as uneven weaving and dyeing. Please note that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dye used for the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
