Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are handwoven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are deeply rooted in daily life, made from plant-dyed wool with long piles. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture rich in natural oils, which helps with temperature regulation. Gabbeh rugs, made by carefully hand-weaving this naturally dyed wool, one strand at a time, by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last for 100 years, indicating their exceptional durability. Originating from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also known for being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing a feeling of heat. And then there's their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the nomads' imagination, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They are so artistic that they can be displayed on a wall as art, as well as on the floor. Gabbeh rugs are meant to be used for a long time. Why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap. For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung-out towel. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to the handwoven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and inconsistencies in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of a handwoven item. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive smell from the dye used for the wool may occur. The smell will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
