Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who graze in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are made from naturally dyed wool and are an integral part of their daily life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and contains a large amount of fat to regulate body temperature, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, woven by Iranian nomads one by one with this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last 100 years, demonstrating their excellent durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, providing a cool feeling.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original item.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but also displayed as art on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for many years to come?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If you are concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and irregularities in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dyes used to color the wool.
The smell will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
