Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs made by the Qashqai nomads, who live in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using hand-knotted, naturally dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a lot of oil to regulate body temperature effectively.
This wool is dyed with natural dyes and then carefully hand-knotted by Iranian nomads, resulting in a fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there's their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with no two alike, each being a unique original.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Please Note
Due to the handmade nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and irregularities in weaving and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a handmade item.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dyes used on the wool.
The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
